As part of the series, I will cover the requirements, installation steps, and post installation configuration details. My current lab is setup with Windows Server 2016 active directory with single forest root domain MSEXPERTTALK.COM“. We will be installing a single Exchange 2019 server on Windows Server 2019 with desktop experience.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 Compatibility Requirements
- Exchange Server 2010 and earlier versions are not supported with Exchange Server 2019 coexistence.
- Exchange Server 2019 coexistence is supported with Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 21 (CU21) or later on all Exchange 2013 servers in the organization, including Edge Transport servers.
- Exchange Server 2019 coexistence is supported with Exchange 2016 CU11 or later on all Exchange 2016 servers in the organization, including Edge Transport servers.
- All domain controllers in the forest must be running Windows Server 2012 R2 (Standard or Data Center) or higher version of Operating system.
- Exchange Server 2019 requires Active Directory forest functional level of 2012 R2 or higher.
- Exchange 2019 supports the following DNS namespaces:
- Contiguous
- Noncontiguous
- Single label domains
- Disjoint
- IPv6 is fully supported with Exchange Server 2019.
- 30 GB of free disk space, however, you need to plan disk storage based on your mailbox size in the organization. It’s highly recommended to use Exchange sizing calculator for sizing.
- NTFS based file system is supported.
Microsoft recommend deploying Exchange Server 2019 on Windows Server 2019 core edition.

- New look for Outlook on the Web with more features and look.
- Exchange Admin center layout matches with Exchange online Admin center for consistent admin experience.
- Outlook Web Access has more features and a better look.
- Exchange Server 2019 can use Client Access Rules to only allow administration of Exchange from the internal network only.
- Exchange Server 2019 now supports up to 256 GB of memory and 48 CPU cores
Please note that DKIM is still not supported with latest release of Exchange Server.
